1. Who we are

Blue Ring Venture Capital (operating as Blue Ring Venture Capital) is a not-for-profit angel investor group based in Windsor, Ontario. Our privacy officer can be reached through the privacy request form or by mail at Windsor, ON.

This policy covers this website, the application portal, the member portal, our outreach and our events.

2. What we collect

If you apply or contact us: your name and business contact details; information about your company (industry, location, years operating, revenue and profitability ranges, headcount, capital need); later in the process, financial statements and supporting documents you choose to upload; notes from calls and meetings; and references you provide.

If you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address, the date and wording of the consent you gave, and your interaction with the messages we send.

If you are a referral partner or an outreach contact: your business contact information and the source it came from, including publicly available business email addresses and professional profiles, plus a record of why the message was relevant to your role.

If you are a member: identity, investor-qualification attestations, and your activity within the group.

If you visit this website: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location derived from IP address, and device information. Analytics that use cookies or persistent identifiers run only after you accept them; until then, analytics run in a cookieless mode and advertising measurement does not run at all.

What we do not collect at intake: personal tax returns, personal net-worth statements, banking credentials, or government identification numbers.

3. Why we use it

To screen applications against our published criteria; to introduce companies to members; to communicate with you about your application; to run our programs and events; to send marketing messages where you have consented or where an exemption applies; to verify information and prevent fraud; to meet record-keeping and reporting obligations, including to the Ontario Securities Commission; to secure our systems; and to comply with law.

4. AI-assisted screening — and human decisions

We use artificial-intelligence tools to help volunteer screeners work quickly. These tools may read your application and produce summaries, questions and preliminary scores against our published criteria. They do not make decisions. A named member reviews every application and records the decision and the reasons.

• Providers. Third-party AI model providers located in the United States, under commercial terms that prohibit using your content to train their models. Content is transmitted encrypted.
• What we send. The fields and documents you submit, with personal identifiers removed where practical. We do not send personal tax or banking records.
• Your rights. You may ask at any time whether AI tools were used on your application, for a plain-language explanation of the principal factors in a decision, for a human re-review, and to correct information. Use the privacy request form; we respond within 30 days.
• Quebec residents additionally have the rights described in section 12.1 of the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector. Our decisions are never based exclusively on automated processing.

5. Who we share it with

Our members, who are accredited or self-certified investors and who receive company information under confidentiality terms; our service providers (hosting, email, customer records, analytics, AI model providers), each under contract; other angel groups or capital providers, only when you ask us to refer you; regulators and law enforcement where legally required; and a successor organization in the event of a merger or wind-up.

We do not sell personal information.

6. Where it is processed

Our production database and file storage are hosted in Canada (Supabase, ca-central-1). Some service providers — including AI model providers, email delivery and analytics — process information in the United States. While there, information is subject to United States law and may be accessed by US courts, law-enforcement and national-security authorities.

7. Advertising measurement

Where you have consented, we may share a hashed version of your email address with advertising platforms to measure whether our advertising reached people who later applied. Hashing is one-way; the platforms cannot recover your address from it. You can withdraw this consent through "Cookie settings" in the footer of any page.

8. Cookies and analytics

Essential cookies keep the site working and remember your privacy choices. Optional categories are analytics and advertising measurement, and both are off for every visitor until you choose otherwise. Full detail is on the cookie policy, and you can change your choice at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.

9. How long we keep it

Records we must keep for securities or tax purposes are retained for the required period regardless of a deletion request; we will tell you when that applies.

10. Security

Access is limited to people who need it, protected by multi-factor authentication for staff and members. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Document access is logged. We keep a breach log and will notify affected individuals and the appropriate regulators where a breach creates a real risk of significant harm.

11. Your rights

You may ask us to give you access to the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, explain an AI-assisted decision, or withdraw a consent. Use the privacy request form. We respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and Quebec residents may complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information.

12. Email and CASL

Every commercial message we send identifies us, gives our mailing address, states why you are receiving it, and includes a one-click unsubscribe. Unsubscribes are processed immediately and in any event within 10 business days. Transactional messages about an application you have in progress are not commercial electronic messages and continue after an unsubscribe.

13. Children

This website is not directed to anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

14. Changes

We will post any change here with a new version number and date. Material changes affecting how we use information you already gave us will be notified directly where we have your contact details.
