How it works

No black box. Here is exactly what happens after you apply.

A named person replies within 48 hours. Screening takes up to 10 business days. From first conversation to a signed agreement, 4–12 weeks is typical. Every decision is made and recorded by a person.

Applying to Blue Ring Venture Capital takes about 15 minutes and asks for no confidential documents. A screener replies within 48 hours, a fit decision follows within 10 business days, and companies that fit move to a 30-minute call, a working session with interested members, diligence and a negotiated agreement. Most complete the journey in 4–12 weeks.

Before you start: the sectors members do not look at

We look at most sectors — the exceptions are listed here so nobody wastes a week: software and AI companies; restaurants, cafés and food service; hotels, resorts, B&Bs, tours and travel; clinics of any kind (health, dental, therapy, veterinary); studios of any kind (fitness, yoga, wellness, beauty); fashion and apparel; landscaping; concrete; franchise locations; trucking; wineries, breweries and distilleries; mining and mineral exploration; real-estate development; cannabis, gaming, adult. If your business is on that list, the members are not the right partners, and we would rather you heard it now than after an hour on the form.

The seven steps

Monthly pitch meeting; screening call two weeks before. Most companies complete the journey in four to twelve weeks.

  1. Day 0

    You apply

About 15 minutes. No confidential documents, no personal financial information.

  2. Within 48 hours

    A person replies

A named screener confirms receipt and tells you what happens next.

  3. Within 10 business days

    Screening

Two or three volunteer members read the application against the published criteria. AI tools summarize; people decide.

  4. 30 minutes

    Introductory call

A conversation about the business, the plan and what you actually want from an investor.

  5. Weeks 2–4

    Member working session

Interested members dig in with you: numbers, customers, the plan, the structure.

  6. Weeks 4–10

    Diligence and a site visit

Financial, commercial and legal review, references, and half a day on site. Members put in 20+ hours each.

  7. Weeks 8–12

    Terms, papers, close

You negotiate directly with the individual members taking part. Each side uses its own lawyer.

What we ask for, and when

Information is collected in stages. Nothing sensitive is requested until both sides want to continue.

  1. At application

    15 minutes

Company name and location, industry, years operating, revenue and profit ranges, headcount, what the capital is for, how much, your preferred structure, and how you heard about us. No financial statements, no personal information beyond a business contact.

  2. Before the first call

If we both want to continue

A one-page summary of the plan and a simple use-of-funds table. If you have a deck or a business plan, send it; if you do not, do not write one for us.

  3. Before the member working session

    Weeks 2–4

Three years of year-end financial statements (notice-to-reader is fine), current year-to-date, customer concentration (top ten by revenue, names optional at this stage), and an organization chart.

  4. In diligence

    Weeks 4–10

Bank statements sample, aged receivables and payables, key contracts and leases, insurance, corporate records, references from customers, suppliers and your accountant. Site visit. Members typically spend 20+ hours here.

  5. At closing

    Weeks 8–12

Shareholder or subscription agreement, the instrument itself (preferred shares, revenue note or loan with warrants), board or observer terms, and reporting commitments. Each side uses its own lawyer.

What we do — and what we never do

What you can count on

  • A reply from a named person within 48 hours
  • A clear yes, no or not-yet within 10 business days
  • Reasons, in plain language, when the answer is no
  • Confidential handling of documents inside the group under member confidentiality terms
  • Introductions to other capital sources when we are not the fit

What we never do

  • Charge application, presentation or success fees to companies
  • Publish your company name, your numbers or the fact that you applied
  • Let software make the decision — a person records every one
  • Ask for personal tax returns or personal net-worth statements at intake
  • Take a position you have not agreed to, or push you toward a sale you do not want

After a yes

What involvement actually looks like

One member takes the lead and joins your board or advisory group. Expect a monthly meeting of an hour or two with a short financial package beforehand — revenue, gross margin, cash, backlog or bookings, headcount. Between meetings, the lead is a phone call away.

Investors expect a say on a short list of decisions: taking on new debt above an agreed level, selling the company or major assets, issuing new shares, and related-party transactions. Everything else stays with you.

  • Monthly financials in a format you already produce
  • Annual reviewed or audited statements only if the deal size warrants it
  • Board or observer seat for the lead member
  • A planned buy-back or exit path written into the agreement

AI-assisted screening; people decide

We use software, including AI tools, to summarize applications and check them against the published criteria so volunteer screeners can move quickly. Those tools never make a decision. A named member reviews every application, records the decision and the reasons, and you can ask for a human re-review at any time. Full disclosure is on the application page and in our privacy policy.

Process questions

Who sees my application?

The volunteer screening team — two or three members — and the staff who run the process. Interested members see a summary only after the screening call, and full documents only in diligence. Nothing is published, and nothing is shared outside the group without your consent.

Can I talk to someone before applying?

Yes. Use the contact form or book a short call from the contact page. We would rather answer a question in ten minutes than have you spend an hour on an application that is not a fit.

What if the answer is not yet?

You will get the reasons and, if you want, a check-in in six months. Many companies that hear "not yet" come back once a lease is signed, a customer is landed or the books are cleaner.

How is confidentiality handled?

At intake, information is received on a non-confidential basis — do not send trade secrets. From the working session onward, members handle documents under the group's member confidentiality terms, and a mutual NDA can be signed for diligence.

Save and resume any time. You will get a reply from a person within 48 hours.
